ADDING A META CONVERSIONS API (CAPI) FOR YOUR GEARLAUNCH STORE
Updated December 2025
1. What Is the Meta Conversions API (CAPI)?
Meta’s Conversions API (CAPI) lets your store share key customer actions (like purchases or page views) directly from your server to Meta’s servers. Using both the Pixel and CAPI improves data accuracy, ad performance, and reporting reliability—especially when browser tracking is limited by privacy changes (e.g., iOS 14+).
Benefits:
More complete conversion tracking (less data loss).
Improved ad optimization and retargeting accuracy.
Better reporting of purchase and add-to-cart events.
Privacy-safe data handling (Meta now hashes key data fields).
2. Setup Options (Choose One)
Meta currently supports three main setup paths:
Partner Integration (Recommended) — Easiest method if your platform (GearLaunch) provides a built-in connection.
Conversions API Gateway — Meta’s managed solution for server-side tracking (ideal for businesses that run their own domains).
Manual Setup / System User Access Token — Developer-oriented; requires generating a token via Meta Business Manager.
If you’re a GearLaunch seller, use the Partner Integration method below.
Navigate to Business Settings → Users → System Users.
Create a System User (if you don’t already have one).
Assign the Pixel asset to that user.
Generate a System User Access Token with ads_management and business_management permissions.
Copy the access token.
💡 Note: Meta no longer supports the “Generate Access Token” option directly from Events Manager for most accounts.
Step 3 – Add Your Access Token to GearLaunch
In your GearLaunch Dashboard, go to Settings → Default pixels → Custom Audience and Conversions API access token. Paste the Access Token and Pixel ID into the provided fields.
4. Verify Your Connection
Return to Meta Events Manager.
Open your Pixel → “Test Events” tab.
Perform a test purchase in your GearLaunch store.
Verify that the event appears both under Pixel Events and Server Events (CAPI).
Check that deduplication is working (only one event appears in reporting).
5. Optimize and Maintain
Monitor your Event Match Quality (EMQ) in Events Manager.
Use both Pixel and CAPI for strongest performance.
Rotate or regenerate tokens if you change system users or permissions.
Review Meta’s CAPI changelog quarterly for updates.
6. Privacy & Compliance
Meta now requires:
SHA-256 hashing for personal identifiers (email, phone, etc.) before sending them.
Compliance with all applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
Inclusion of appropriate disclosures in your privacy policy.
